The Yoruba tribe is a culture indigenous to Nigeria. Its culture and mythology was transplanted to Brazil through the Atlantic Slave Trade, resulting in new religions syncretized with Native American and Christian beliefs. Both in Brazil and in America, I practiced these beliefs and wanted to find the source, leading me to the Yoruba tribe, which I was familiar with in relation to the Igbo tribe.
My Professor Jarrett Davis assigned us a comic book project based on a creation story and after some research, I knew this story was what I wanted to do because it had personal ties to me and my family. The comic is silent except for the word "Ife" which is what the Yoruba called their ancient city. It is also almost completely in black & white except for the gold and golden chain.
To sum up the story, the Orisha Obatala, with the help of the God of Prophecy Orunmila, traveled from the sacred Baobab tree to create life along with his father Olorun.
