Hurricane Disaster Prototype

December 2017
Title: “Reflexiona día a día” (Reflecting day by day
Course: DGDM 4005 Professional Seminar
Softwares: Adobe illustrator

This project was featured in the Design Research Society 2018 presented by Dr. María de Mater O’neill and Prof. Leslie-Ann Noel.

Hurricane María was regarded the worst natural disaster on record in Puerto Rico, with category 4 this hurricane caused catastrophic damages in the island. This usable prototype was created to lift peoples spirits from their daily lives struggles. I designed it in a catastrophic environment and it was made with materials I had at hand. This prototype has many different features including: a 14 day diary of questions to reflect on their struggles and thinking positively despite the circumstances (including a mini notepad and pencil), two magnetic games to ease the mind and a puzzle ingeniously made with popsicle sticks. It’s intended to be placed in the distributed food boxes handed to the affected people.
