Jo Field - Portfolio
Original work
'Slow and Steady'
A short film of a friend's tortoise exploring a garden. This was made as an exercise for me to practise different shot types. All filming was done using a Nikon D550 DSLR with a 18-55mm lens, and edited using Premiere Pro CC.
Showreel 2017-2018
A short showreel compiling a variety of my footage from 2017/18. This was edited using Premiere Pro CC.
'A Sea of Stripes'
A short film I made about striped dolphins, based on a trip to Italy in September 2017 where I took part in a marine biology camp which focused on plastic pollution and cetacean conservation. Filmed using a Nikon D550 DSLR with 18-55mm lens and a GoPro, and edited using Premiere Pro CC.
Photography Portfolio - 2017 work
Wildlife photography portfolio showcasing some of my work from throughout 2017, from various locations. All photographs were taken using a Nikon D550 DSLR with an 18-55mm lens.
Tourist brochure designed for a fictional African lion zoo exhibit. This was made for a creative writing task I was set for a science communication project, as part of my zoology degree. The brochure is designed to be accessible to any visitors of the zoo, so particular attention was paid to language to ensure that less-informed, particularly young, members of the public can understand and interpret the information.
Other projects
Palaeocast - 'Sponges revealed as sister-group to all other animals'
A Palaeocast production for the University of Bristol about a recent phylogenetics study on the earliest animals. I was involved in the script-writing and editing phase, as well as providing narration and post-production sound editing using Premiere Pro CC. This film is also featured as a video abstract for the study on 'Current Biology' journal's website.
Palaeocast - 'Countershading in the theropod dinosasaur Sauropteryx from the Early Cretaceous Jehol Biota, China'
A video produced by Palaeocast for the University of Bristol, discussing a recent paper about countershading camouflage in the Early Cretaceous Sinosauropteryx. For this video, I helped in the script-writing and editing phase which involved fact-checking using both scientific articles and discussing directly with the scientists of the study.
Palaeocast - 'PalAss 2017: Experimental modelling of sedimentary processes for the Burgess Shale'
A lecture from the Palaeontological Association's 2017 annual conference, held at Imperial College London in December 2017. All lectures as part of this conference were filmed for Palaeocast, and I was tasked with basic editing, specifically adding title sequences of a specific format, for footage of over 40 lectures. Other lectures are available on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqOkWuo2QK0&list=PL-C2Lai1dggpOVhYlq9mLkb6C1eIkk3vh
