Discover Local Places to Eat, Drink, and Hang Out
If you are in a big city either as a local or as a visitor, finding a place to eat can be overwhelming. Researching different options can take forever, and it’s always hard to know if reviews are trust-worthy. Spots makes it quick, fun, and easy to discover local places to eat, drink, and hang out. The app connects you to restaurants, bars, and cafes that are close to your current location, and it provides you with curated recommendations based on your existing habits and preferences.
Strategy
Spots enables individuals to do three things:
1) Discover new places
2) Compare options effortlessly
3) Fine tune their options to suit their tastes
Not Just Another Food App
One of my biggest challenges in designing Spots was to differentiate it from all of the other food and drink apps that currently exist. I took inspiration from the dating app Tinder, which simplifies another similarly overwhelming process by showing users only the essential data, and getting rid of all the noise. With Spots, users are shown only one option at a time, and given only the bare minimum amount of information that they need to make a well-informed, trustworthy decision in the moment.
