Symple
Making life with PTSD a little bit easier

One of the biggest challenges for people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is being able to recognize and cope with symptoms such as flashbacks, insomnia, and panic attacks. Symple is a mobile application that gives people more control over their mental health by enabling them to anticipate, track, and manage their PTSD symptoms. The app is designed to accompany a wearable smart device that monitors the individual’s physical and mental health.

Strategy
Symple enables individuals with PTSD to do three things:
1) Anticipate their symptoms proactively
2) Track their symptoms over time
3) Manage their symptoms in real time
Designing for Mental Distress
One of the most challenging parts aspects of this project was designing the data visualizations for the Anticipate Symptoms and Track Symptoms sections of the app. I had to keep iterating until I found a solution that was both visually appealing and intuitive. My target user for this app is likely to be in a state of mental distress, therefore it was crucial to design a product that was simple, user-friendly, and soothing. I used harmonious colours to provide a sense of calmness and warmth, and I used language that was friendly, helpful, and concise to make things as easy as possible for the user of the app.
