Self-portrait
In the empty spaces when your mind wanders,
where does it go

I have a need for beauty, to understand it and try to create it I see almost as my burden as an artist. Beauty astounds and puzzles me as well as a million other art philosophers i know its a theme heavily overworked but i cant help it. It's an obsession to recreate the feeling everytime different, encapsulated in that moment of awe and surprise when you recognise beauty. It could be a photograph, a well curated set, the colours, the light, the details but it is a combination, at times random and completely subjective. A fleeting moment, memory, understanding or circumstance, transience has become valuable.

I have decided to return to painting this year so this is the first of a series of portrait paintings studying beauty and transience.
