Layering is a hypothetical programme that I did in college as we had to rethink our course. As a reference, I focused on the layers of ice. It's a process since the first layer till the last one, and you have to go through all of them until you see what's beyond: the ice core.
That traces a parallel line as the one in college. In the "layering" program students have a learning based on "doing", discovering what's beneath, gaining experience. Doing and learning so you can absorb all the layers until you finally reach your "core".
