Project background
The aim of this project was to choose a physical space and understand its functioning in terms of overall system. We had to study the nature of the crowd, their navigate from place to place and the environment in which the system would be installed. After the proper research, we had to make intern-connections of different macro-micro units in that space to see how they are interconnected. Propose deliverables had to be delivered after going through the desired design process.
Swargate Bus Depot
Swargate is a central area of Pune, Maharashtra, India. This is one of the busiest area in Pune. It is because of the two major bus station at that place. Swargate Bus Station consists of two adjacent bus stations in Pune, operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML).
The PMPML functions for the Pune city transportation system whereas MSRTC connects Pune to other cities.

Problems
- Improper defined bus numbers and bus stops.
- The PMPML and ST bus station have weak signage system. A good wayfinding system could help to make the
experience better for all commuters.
- Several bus stops have been assigned nameplates which do not have good legibility.
- Lack of information about bus timings and ticket price from few bus stops. The main depot might have a
ticket board but the rest do not.
- Instructions given in only one language, Marathi. A cosmopolitan place like Pune needs a common language.
- Visual hierarchy is missing from the bus stops in terms of color, font etc.
Other Problems
- There is a lack of hygiene on and around the bus stop. It is important for commuters to understand the
importance of cleanliness.

Proposed solutions
Way finding - The ST bus stand has very weak signage system. A good way finding can help make the experience better.
Digital Signage - in the era of technology, there is scope to add technology for several tasks at the ST bus stand.
Wall graphics - The empty walls surrounding that area can be used for a good wall art and other kind of wall graphics.
This will also help to enhance the look of the place.
Cleaning System - there is no proper system for trash disposal. People litter everywhere. A creative idea that promotes cleanliness can promote healthy atmosphere.
Color
Pune has a rich cultural heritage and has many famous monuments. The orange color stands for the determination of their
old age history and cultural pride. It reflects passion, warmth and enthusiasm.
Font
Ek Mukta is a Unicode compliant, versatile, contemporary, humanist, mono-linear typeface available in seven weights, supporting Devanagari and Latin scripts.
Directional Signage 1
This signage would be placed on main road that will not just indicate the direction for the bus stop but will also show
directions of other nearby places in the city.

to ease their navigation to a large extent.
