Bull Sand Fort, Humber Estuary c.1940

This is one of my favourite pieces of architecture and looks very mysterious and evocative from the East Riding shore. Bull Sand Fort is one of two island forts (the other being Haile Sand Fort) situated on the Humber Estuary near Spurn Point and was built during the First World War to protect the ports located further up the estuary.

This artistic representation of the fort depicts as it was during the period of the Second World War, with the enhanced gun emplacements at roof level.

For an in-depth history of the structure please see this informative account: http://www.islandofhope.co.uk/Bull%20Fort%20Story%201.pdf
