I arrived at this book cover design for Fate's Fables after doing an in-depth market analysis on best selling young adult fantasy fiction book covers. The subcategory for this particular book is fairy tales and folklore, so it was important to include readily identifiable tropes of the fantasy genre, such as a castle, magic sword, mist and a foreboding presence.
The market analysis also revealed a need to educate readers on just how much Fate's Fables had to offer in regards to the unique, overall concept of the story itself. To do this, the story was broken down into eight separate ebooks to show readers there are eight fairy tales the main character travels through. Using the same image of the model, I designed eight separate surrounds to illustrate a glimpse of each different world the main character will encounter.
Finally, I designed a box set cover image to sell the story in it's entirety. The perceived value of eight stories presented as a package increased sales significantly, placing the Fate's Fables Box Set Collection on over a dozen Amazon best seller lists.
