DESIGN STATEMENT:
This fall collection was inspired by the artist Aaron S. Moran’s assemblage pieces. That were created from found materials of places of urban and sub-urban environments. The use of angular shapes as well as the distressed, antiquity look of his work is fascinating. In addition, i looked at the distressed look of cracked concrete, modern architecture, and structural aspects in nature for inspiration for the silhouette and the overall mood of the collection.
The color palette was inspired by the urban environment’s wear and tear, that seems to be spruced up by something modern.Or by something bright in color, to trick the eye in seeing it as something entirely new. When in reality it’s just a fresh coat of paint.Therefore with this same approach the collection will have an added pop of color to the heavily based neutral color palette to tie in this idea.
The collection incorporates geometric shapes in the silhouette, by the oversized collars, triangular hems, squared necklines, and angular style lines. By using silk jersey and softer leather to create asymmetrical draped dresses or jackets. The outerwear pieces will either incorporate leather, cashmere,double faced wool separately or mixed, which will give the structure and crispness to the silhouette. The customer is between the age of twenty through late thirties living in a metropolitan area. She shops at higher end departments stores such as Barney’s New York, Neiman Marcus, and SAKS. Also she shops at All-Saints, Satine Boutique, Creatures of Comfort, Fred Segal, and Intermix. Price points starting at $290 for pants, leggings, and skirts. Leather jackets, or bottoms starting at $1,995. Outwear ranging from $525 to $1,500. Tops, and dresses starting at $280. This collection is not loud in the details, colors or prints, one to stay consist with the overall mood of the inspiration,and also to stay true to my own personal design aesthetics. My main focus for this collection is more about the structure, the craftsmanship and the materials; and for that to make it complex and beautiful.
