One of my favorite college projects that challenged me to think more abstractly – a lyric video created for the 4D Design class taught by instructor Julia Hechtman at Northeastern University in the fall of 2015. The assignment involved creating a music video for a song with two important limitations – no representational imagery or illustrations were allowed, and only the Helvetica typeface could be used for the lyrics.
Monkey Gone to Heaven is the seventh track on Doolittle – the second studio album released by American rock band the Pixies in 1989. I wanted to capture the emotionally charged alternative rock vibes as well as the energy in the delivery of the vocals. This drove my choices in color palette and type animation. Below are some stills from the video.
