Flooding in Nigeria | MAKURDI, BENUE STATE

Makurdi Flooding
Between July and September 2017, flooding in Nigeria has forced rivers over their coast and submerged homes,cars,roads and farmland.Flood has forced over thousands of people from their homes as well as claiming hundreds of lives. 

Number of cities have been visited by flood,from Lagos to Ibadan,Suleja to Lokoja,then Makurdi have experienced flurry downpour as well. 

More than 100,000 people have fled their homes because of major flooding in the central State of Benue,the flood however, swallowed communities in Apa, Otukpo, Agatu and Makurdi. 

Beyond destroying buildings, many have lost loved ones and still counting losses,many with food stored got their food swallowed up by flood, rice turned rotten then fetid, unable to be eaten again. 

As the saying goes "opportunities come but once" many wish for the flood to be a regular occurrence because of the shelter and food brought to their door step as they take solace t the International Ultra Modern Market. 

Though the flood is gradually getting drained by the sun,the road turned river has become motor-able as against when it was flooded and people use gallon as a riding boat to their destination. 

Furniture and properties regaining strength from the marauding flood,young and old regaining hopes,and people seen carrying their luggage back into their houses.

An old man recount his lost, he lost all he had, his house was destroyed by flood and the only farmland he got was not left out.

The Benue flood came at night just as Suleja own, meet them unprepared.

A young girl suffered eye infection after being rescued from the flood which almost took her away. 
The people of Makurdi, Benue State has suffered food shortage due to the recent flood. Many of their food storage where destroyed.

The flood came unexpectedly, took everything. My greatest pain are my daughter's books that got soaked by water. Mrs. Mary narrated as she try to look for a way to dry them.

The Nigerian Air Force as since deployed his men on medical outreached to the flood victim.
The Benue State Government has since opened the Ultra Modern International Market in Makurdi to be used as an IDP camp for those who lost their property to the flood.
