Hamlet was an easy challenge in that if you do not draw a crown, a skull, or a sword, you are almost there in making it fresh again, which in the sketches you will see that I drew every single one of those classic items. Le sigh. What really pushed the artistic direction for this poster was the fact that director Dana Smith was going for Art Nouveau stylistic choices and that this play was set in a “timeless now” rather than having a specific era affixed to it.

So off I went to study Alphonse Mucha’s works and come back with an appropriate response to this play. Some of the influence that I took from Mucha were the usage of a figure, the borders, and the flowers(although it really helps that flowers were a motif used throughout this production). What really differed was the kind of colors used. It was a sombre black paired off with a soft pastel peach to show the kind of show Hamlet is.

Now other than the posters and other deliverables, I was also able to take pictures for their projections. They had extra budget, so we had some buttons too.
