Having served in a number of for profit and not-for-profit organizations as a board member and as an business executive for more than 15 years, Kathy Levinson has overseen the business plans and strategies for a number of new enterprises. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Kathy Levinson belongs to several organizations, including the Human Rights Commission.

Created in 1964 out of the Civil Rights Movement, the Human Rights Commission was born from an Interim Committee on Human Relations, organized by San Francisco Mayor John F. Shelley to study the question of discrimination against African Americans in his city. The interim committee soon became the Human Rights Commission. Involved in the study of several rights issues, the Commission has formed various committees to oversee its studies, including the LGBT Aging Policy Task Force (LGBTAPTF).

Created to investigate the concerns and needs of senior LGBT community members, the LGBTAPTF formulates recommendations and actions based on information gathered from hearings with the senior LGBT community of the San Francisco area. The regularly scheduled meetings address areas of interest such as housing and legal issues faced by the community as well as health and social concerns.
