Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Mr. Sherlock Holmes

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Mr. Sherlock Holmes
the project for the puppet theatre

This design of scenography and characters is my proposal of puppet performance, dedicated to story of creating the famous literary legend.

The short narrative

This story has the beginning in 1897, when the young doctor and writer Arthur Conan Doyle published his novel "A Study in Scarlet" in the Beeton's Christmas Annual. It was the first appearance of Sherlock Holmes in London.
It is considered, that the character of the famous detective was inspired by Dr. Joseph Bell, a Scottish surgeon and lecturer at the medical school of the University of Edinburg, where young Conan Doyle was studying.
An attentive doctor, a brilliant lecturer, a physicist, a chemist, an expert on various poisons, and besides, a poet...
Conan Doyle met Bell in 1877, 10 years before the publication of the first story about Sherlock Holmes and later, he served as his clerk at the Edinburg Royal Infirmary.

So, the live plan: two actors in the armchairs by the fireplace. Two main characters: Conan Doyle himself and doctor Josef Bell. Playing field for pappets is an upper surface of the fireplace.  And as the backdrops for the puppet story there are pages of the book.
Five puppets are proposed:

1. (scetch in the middle) Arthur Conane Doyle himself, puppet as a copy of the live plan character
2. Sherlock Holmes (left side)
3. Professor Moriarty (right side)
4. Doctor Watson (leftmost)
5. Mrs. Hudson (rightmost)

By now, three of them: Sherlock Holmes, Professor Moriarty and Mrs. Hudson are made in the material.
