This was a project done for a Manufacturing Process I class at Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
The goal was to create an egg and a vessel to fit the egg. The challenge was that the egg had to be manually carved independently from the vessel, which was designed in Solidworks and then 3D printed when the egg was fully carved. If done correctly, the egg would fit perfectly into the vessel.
My strategy was to create a profile for the egg and laser cut the profile out of a sheet of acrylic. I then used the profile as a guide to carve the egg. I used the same profile as a path in Solidworks to create the cavity in which the egg would sit.
