22% of The Netherlands total population has a foreign background. This results in Dutch cities being full of cultural diversity, which adds a lot of value to the city landscapes, but is not always reflected in certain areas. This results in a sense of lack of belonging for these immigrant cultures and debates the whole collective identity of a place.
The vision of this project was to showcase multiculturality
and present it as a societal fact in The Netherlands through the modification of the typical Dutch Stroopwafel. The aim of the Multicultural memento is to create curiosity among the people that is going to touch, bringing up a social discussion about interculturalism, integration, inclusion and social cohesion, while arising the senses through a comestible experience.

Product
The final product was a souvenir box containing 12 Stroopwafels, 3 per country. The countries involved in the project were: Indonesia, Suriname, Turkey, and The Netherlands (as the matrix). The box also contains a small foldable prototype to warm up the Stroopwafels the very Dutch way: with the steam from the coffee or tea mug.
