Local boat owners hand over a found motorboat engine to local authorities. The engine and small boat were found floating in the bay with no anchor.
Boat owners tie the newly found floating boats to their own to drag back to shore.
A cargo ship and sunrise awaiting its turn to pass through the Panama Canal
The bridge of the Americas is the first bridge to pass under when approaching from the Pacific side of the Canal
To make sure the ships do not hit the side of the canal, these 'Mules' help drag along the ship to keep the speed consistent and to try and decrease damage to the canal as well as the ships passing
Container ships are the most frequent users of the Canal, it decreases the time it would otherwise take to sail around Cape horn where the waters can become unpredictable and dangerous.
The Queen Victoria transits through the Panama Canal in 2018
Transitted through the Panama Canal in 2017 and then again in 2018. I was lucky enough to be met by a local tour guide who took me from one end of the canal to the other in only a few hours stopping along the way to see some interesting areas of Panama including Panama City itself. Our guide showed us some incredible scenery as well as each lock of the canal as well. The vast number of ships using the canal each day is incredible and could really understand why it was built in the end and the demand for it.
In 2018 i had the opportunity to follow The Queen Victoria along the canal in a helicopter, seeing a birds eye view of the canal and its surroundings. On either side of the Canal i could see only rainforest for miles stretching from the pacific side to the Atlantic side of the Canal.
