The Two Oceans Aquarium based in Cape Town, South Africa launched the start of their Shark Awareness Week during the annual Simon's Town Harbour Festival.
After a spate of shark attacks around the Peninsula, there was an enormous outcry of public alarm and anxiety.
The truth is that 100 million sharks and rays are killed each year and without proper understanding of this magnificent creature, scientists estimate that they will be soon extinct.
The protest was designed to help alter attitudes and encourage the public to "Rethink the Shark".
