Dr. Christine Johns (Superintendent)'s profile

Utica Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology

A Michigan-based education leader, Dr. Christine Johns has served as superintendent of Utica Community Schools for over a decade. Through her work as superintendent, Dr. Christine Johns has helped advance innovative district programs, including the Utica Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology (UCMST).

Designed for high-achieving students in the areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), the UCMST gives youth in grades nine through 12 the opportunity to take part in an accelerated program covering advanced placement topics. In addition to college-level instruction in science and mathematics, the Center’s four-year curriculum includes courses on C++ and JAVA programming.

To enhance student learning, classroom instruction is coupled with innovative labs, projects, and scientific research. Students also have the opportunity to take part in the UCMST Junior Internship Program, which offers career experience in various STEM professions.

Eighth-grade students previously enrolled in Utica’s accelerated Project Math Program are eligible to apply for entry into the UCMST. Selection for the program is based on a letter of intent as well as grades and performance on aptitude tests.
