College All Stars: The Higher Education Scholarship Program

Hard work pays off, especially when it comes to a student's academics. With good grades, students have a chance of getting accepted to the college of their dreams. But what happens to the students that don’t do so well?

I had the opportunity to sit down with a Community Impact team representative at Converse on how high school education can be improved in the City of Boston by pitching a scholarship program with a unique reward; sneakers.

Students from a selection of four high schools–Brighton High, East Boston High, Jeremiah E. Burke High, William Mckinley– have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship program that will award them a scholarship of $2,500 toward their college tuition and a pair of limited edition “Higher Education” Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars as a symbol for their efforts in the pursuit of academic excellence and higher education.

The high schools selected have a graduation rate of 67% and lower, in some cases, the graduation rate goes as low as 36%. I created this program to encourage students to do better in school by keeping their grades up and increase the graduation rate so that students may seek college education and acceptance in these schools.

Website: I created this interactive website to for students to access and get more information on the scholarship program. The sites engine has a time reminder for important dates, program details, social media access, and a registration section for students to sign up.
Process Book: This book goes into detail on the idea of this project, the research I gathered, and the creation of the deliverables.
