BATIK AND APPLIQUE
DESIGNS AND CONCEPTS
BATIK
The following concepts were created using the technique of batik. Batik is a kind of wax resist dyeing technique used to create designs on a cloth. Wherever a particular colour is to be resisted, wax is painted over that area. The cloth is then dyed and the rest of the uncovered  area gets dyed, leaving lines with cracks in between of them as a distinguishable feature. The next 4 designs were made using the batik technique.
Design 1 - Geometrical Shapes (2 colour dyeing)
Design 2 - Floral Design (2 Colour Dyeing)
Design 3 - Natural Curve designs of Leaves (2 colour dyeing)
Design 4 - Mythological Creature, Lord Ganesha (2 colour dyeing)

APPLIQUE
An applique is ornamental needlework in which pieces of fabric in different shapes and patterns are sewn or stuck onto a larger piece to form a picture or pattern. The following two designs were made with respect to a cartoon character called 'Doraemon'. The first one is a reverse applique while the second one is a normal applique. To make both designs playful, colourful and printer cloth has been used.
Design 1 - REVERSE APPLIQUE; In this kind of applique, the outline of the fabric is cut over another fabric and stuck, instead of pieces being put together. All though pieces can be stuck over it later on for specific details.
Design 2 - APPLIQUE; In this design, several pieces of small fabric is cut and embroidered onto the cloth to create a composition. Several stitches can also be made to add to the details.
