Employee Wellness App

HR SAAS - Wellness Platform

This fitness app — iGrow — was part of the HR SAAS. It was meant to promote employees wellness being, in order to ensure productivity in workplace in long term.

My Role
Being the sole designer, I was responsible for user experience strategy and interface design. I carried out the user researches and produced all deliverables. I communicate sparingly with our lead developer on concerns like technical feasibility and performance.

The Challenges
Although it was an employee benefits app, we needed to create an app that was competitive enough with existing fitness app in the market to match user expectations. We also needed to retain user engagement as it was the key to promote employees wellness in long term.

Research & Discovery
We conducted stakeholder interview to clarify on requirements and align expectations on the outcome of the project. Subsequently, I did a competitive analysis to explore more on the overall experience of the product. To build better digitalised workout experience, I also conducted interview with professional fitness coach. Combined the learnings with existing insights from quantitative surveys, we learnt that users would be more encouraging and proactive if they set themselves a personal fitness plan. Thus, I designed a workout experience that allow users to 'mix and match' multiple exercise videos in order to create their personal fitness plan. We were especially concerned about this feature when we conducted user testing because we needed to ensure user can complete this task successfully.

The Solutions
To secure higher level of user engagement, we designed a workplace fitness community, where employees can have friendly challenge against colleagues from other departments; or take part in various wellness events. This created a healthy dose of competition and engaged users to exercise more.
We also applied gamification by rewarding users with badges and trophies when they workout continuously for a certain period. We created a screen dedicated for users to track their workout records. And it did not end here. Collecting badges and trophies will in return reward users redeemable gifts or ‘Perkz’ dollars, which they can spend in iPerkz — another employee benefit app provided by the wellness platform, to purchase health related products and services. This experience strategy was designed not only for the users, but to serve business interest as well.
