South End Library

At the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street in Boston’s South End, a neighborhood branch library had to fit the narrow site constraints. The design found its roots in the initial phase of the project dealing with solid and open space.
By concentrating all of the solid program - offices and secondary circulation - in a central core, the main areas and reading rooms occupy continuous expanses of space. The primary circulation wraps around the core whose walls contain the book stacks.
