“Velvet, feathers and leather drift together amongst elegant silks and hothouse flower prints in a tale of total decadence.” Quite perfectly summed up in that one sentence is Atif AbuSamra’s shoot After Dark; perhaps it even sums up the entirety of Gucci’s gothically romantic fall collection, of which the editorial is centered upon. Fashion editor Natascha Hawke and hair & makeup artist Katie Cousins re-imagine the pieces with perhaps a little more enigmatic, vintage-inspired softness than they were presented with on the runway.
The mysterious protagonist – played by Milica Radmilovic – is strong but not hard, beautiful yet not quite delicate. Whether in the collection’s rich green velvet gown or its billowy black blouses and riding boots, the one thing AbuSamra’s images never fail to do is captivate with their dark and luxurious allure.
