  • SYNOPSIS
This short film is a conceptual dance piece based on the ideas of fear, growth, and struggle. It was inspired by the symbolic evolution of the caterpillar into the butterfly. Using color, sound design, and movement, the project aimed to capture the dancer's interpretation of a lyric: do butterflies hide when it rains?

    DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
In conceptual and experimental art, collaboration can be most exciting in the path to creating and finishing a piece. When I presented dancer Dia Khatoon Kabir with a lyric I wrote about butterflies, I wanted the project to be very open and fluid, much like when I made Dreamland (2015). What ended up happening was a great artistic connection and a willingness to open ourselves to the possibilities of life, and art - which is the conclusion that we ultimately drew by the end of the piece.
