It's not very hard to find a map of a neighborhood that claims to have a "family friendly" adventure laid out for the reader, but a lot of those maps miss the mark when considering who uses the map. This project was a group effort, between myself and three other designers. Our goal was to create a map that was user friendly, for a parent or anyone else who may be traveling with a stroller. We thought about what would make our map usable, which led us to using simple icons, a bright stand out color for the path, and even made us consider the shape. As a result, we ended up with a simplistic map that was a circle. The shape allowed for us to cut out the center, which allowed for the user to attach this map to a stroller, which connected back to our desire for usability. It became a hands-free map that would be easy to view at a glance, but also included a more detailed listing of directions and locations on the rear side.
