Adult Animation Workshop at BFI

Adult Animation Day, BFI Southbank
Adult animation day is a bimonthly fixture in the BFI Education calendar.  It's a great opportunity for adults to come together and either learn something new or continue to build their creative ideas.  I really enjoy the adult animation days as the mix of abilities and ideas makes for some great concepts and really picks out the best in everyones abilities.  My role within this was mainly as facilitator and support.  We will show a selection of clips at the beginning of the session with a bit of history about stop motion animation, and also showing the scope of what can be done using this medium.  We will then do a quick demonstration of how the software works before letting people roam free to create their story, characters, scenes, etc.  Part of the fun of the adult animation sessions is that everything is usually on a 'grander' scale.  People often make large scenes with multiple characters, using different angles and really think about the story.  For this we supply a plethora of materials such as; felt, plasticine, card, figurines, backgrounds, scene boards, and so much more.  The rest of the day is for people to play, experiment and make some great animations whilst we facilitate and help with any technical issues.  Dependent on how far people get we'll then show them how to add music, sound effects, speech bubbles, titles, credits, etc before rendering the films for all to see.
