Mexico City Travel Poster

Mexico City Travel Poster
For our first official Graphic Design project, we were given the task of designing a travel poster for a location that we had visited. For inspiration, we went through Behance and selected various posters (link) that inspired us towards our final project. After deliberation and expensive brainstorming for the location, we decided upon Mexico City for our Travel Poster. This was due to one of us possessing several photos from their visit. We then researched the volcano Popocatepetl and the Metropolitan Church before we began our sketches. We then came up with a set of rough sketches that were basic ideas of what we wanted to do for our poster. The sketches, pictured below, include depictions of the Church and Volcano in various different settings and styles.

We eventually settled on photographs with the smoking volcano and the inside of the Metro Church and drew rough pictures showcasing these ideas, seen below.
After sketching our roughs, we settled on composites reminiscent of the top and left roughs. The style we wanted to get across with our posters was a WPA style that resembled a clean illustration rather than just a photograph.
For our final, we decided on the volcano composite as the Church composite felt too complex and congested for a poster. The volcano poster was simple, elegant, and reminiscent of the WPA style that we strived for in the beginning.
