A2 Fine Art Coursework | Spacial Concept Final Outcome

Here is my Final Outcome for my A2 Coursework on the word SPACIAL. This project took around 10 months to complete. After 2 sketchbooks, 21 Study Sheets and a 4500 - 5000 word essay, this is what it all came too. The process of getting to this will be posted on my blog soon and is briefly explained on my A2 Fine Art Coursework | Spacial Sketchbook post.

In this Outcome, I used MDF board to create a structure for my map that was 80cm x 80 cm. The Standard size for MDF without going large wouldn't fit length ways. To reduce costs and the about of material wasted, I cut sections and reapplied in the new positions using super glue and duck tape for extra support before painting the back with white emulsion for a cleaner look before sticking the map on using PVA.

I cut my prints into shapes that fit against the roads creating sections and overlapping acetate on top. I also layered different kinds of maps on the piece as well as maps and prints. Next I added the acetate planet signs and star signs across the board in no real order as I didn't think an order was particular important especially as its about the space more.

Then finally I added my facts on the board. originally I was going to make the facts the same length as they state however, majority of the facts excessed the board and I found that it would be too complex.

The alterations I made during the building was the sewing, boarder and pins. The sewing I was going to do to add the drawing element to connect the whole board together, however you can't sew into MDF and I had already stuck down the map at this point. My solution to this was to sew into thick tracing paper before sticking down onto the map using PVA which made the paper kind of dissolve.

The Pins I used were to separate each fact from another - The start to end. This was because the facts started to muddle up. I used wooden pins from Wilko as I felt black PVC pins wouldn't work as well as wooden I think of old rustic things such as maps.

The boarder aspect came about to clean the ends of the map after becoming dirty with working on the map constantly.

Overall, This project (A2 Fine Art Coursework on the word Spacial) achieved me full marks for Unit 3 - Coursework. This helped me achieve a grade A* Overall for A level (combined marks from AS and A2). In AS I achieve 129 marks out of 200 achieving a grade C. In this Project I achieved 120/120 for coursework and 72 / 80 for my exam project that will be uploaded soon. Because of my hard work on this project I moved up 3 grade boundaries within a year :). So let this be a message to you all, that it doesn't matter what happens in life, you can achieve what you want if you fight for it.
