Audience, Viewpoint, Commentary: Euthanasia

Audience, Viewpoint, Commentary
The brief was about creating a piece of art that examines or explains in a subversive context my personal response to a key issue in contemporary life. I chose Euthanasia; a taboo in our society that I wanted my audience to start talking about. Taking inspiration from Damien Hirst and Frida Khalo, I wanted to create a piece that was confronting and controversial, and made the audience question their own mortality. Euthanasia is such a divided topic, with many arguments for and against, but in my piece, I wanted to show the perspective of someone terminally ill, and wanting Euthanasia. The beginning shows a beautiful ice skull, not yet melted, showing how someone wanting euthanasia may look ok and normal to the rest of us looking in. As the ice progresses it shows the beautiful ice skull slowing melting away to nothing, representing the true emotions and feelings of the patient, mentally and physically, they're willowing away to nothing.
