Video Teasers for Band Relaunch Campaign

My band is one of the most important aspects of my life. It gives me a huge serving of creative freedom, sometimes an overwhelming amount, not just to write music, but to create in all different ways. Images, logos, videos, visual content, art; the scope for creating interconnected ideas is endless, and I love tying everything we do together, visually or referentially. One of my recent challenges was the band's 'relaunch' in 2015. We were reinventing ourselves, returning from the dead to become something new. Video content is one of my many, many passions, and so that's where I began. 'Lavondyss' would become no more and 'wars' would take its place, and we'd make that transition via a social media build up.

The first thing we did was to change our profile and cover display, adding a VHS style glitch and distort effect. We also posted this video, the first of three teasers.

After these changes I made two more teaser videos, each letting on a little more, utilising assets that had been made for the new band 'wars'.
The black and white footage seen here was taken from Archive.org and specifically picked out to sit metaphorically with the kind of subjects we would be tackling as wars, and the idea of change. While we wanted to distance ourselves from any military reference (wars is a reference purely to internal conflict) the black and white stock is something I'd wanted to do for a while. The countdown and the speech in the background, which eventually became the 'wars' live intro all amalgamated to be less distant than I'd have liked, but were very naturally thematic.

In this last video, the band name is revealed, with live, studio, and forthcoming lyric video footage used. The first incarnation of the new logo also appears again. Following this we launched the next day, pointing fans to the new Facebook and announcing our first single which would follow days later. We themed the newly launched Facebook page in a manner reminiscent of these videos for congruence.
