a silent threat
A Silent Threat is aphotographic project that focuses on The Acreage, a community located 40 mileswest of West Palm Beach, Florida. In 2010, the Florida Department of Health issued a "pediatric braintumor cluster" on The Acreage. Over time, the community has lost many victims to brain tumors,residents have moved out and local businesses have been forced to close. To this day, there is still no legalunderstanding to why all of this has happened.
After interviewingresidents, scientists, and lawyers from the area, I went out and photographedwhat they believe is the underling threat to the community. A few of the major possibilities are thesmoke from the burning of sugarcane, polluting of canals and contamination fromthe local jet engine manufacture. Currently court case number 2011CA013759XXXXMB ispending and locals want to believe the outcome will give them a betterunderstanding of what exactly is happening to The Acreage community.
