DeWalt Saws-All Redesign Concept

DeWalt Handle Redesign
Co-team: Steve Chung, Jon Jensen
Our original goal with this project was to reduce user fatigue and improve the comfort of using the DeWalt saw, but after running a multi-body analysis of the saw system, there was little we could do to increase comfort of the reciprocating saw or reduce user fatigue.  The benefit of this redesign was therefore changed to the increase the functionality of the tool.  By creating a handle that could be placed in a secondary "drop stock" position, the tool could be made to be less than 16" long.  This becomes a great benefit for tight area work.  The inclusion of a forward stock was the only possible way to increase the precision of the tool, as well as the normal force to the cutting surface.  This effectively helps the user reduce the effects of natural harmonics in the tool causing severe vibration.
