Fresh Air Explorer

I participated in the Electrolux Design Lab's design challenge with a theme focusing on happy and healthy kids. You are welcomed to have a look of my idea below:

01 INTRODUCTION
"Our children’s wellbeing is what matters the most. We want them to develop into strong individuals with a life full of opportunities. Our homes should be safe and nurturing environments for our kids as they grow up and the parents should enjoy the confidence in being good mothers and fathers. Nurturing and caring for children as well as giving them guidance, are the cornerstones of human evolution, and the future."

02 DESIGN CHALLENGE
"How can we in the future ensure that our homes are supportive environments for children to live in and grow in, in a way that enables and encourages them to become healthy, engaged and happy individuals?"

(Electrolux's brief)
03 IDEA
New generation is born into the 'touch-screen world'. They not only understand technological growth so easily but also expect the physical world to interact with the digital one. Unfortunately the more kids prefer digital tools to play, the more they spend time indoors. And the air quality is not always the best where they spend the day.

Inspired by the unstoppable desire of the kids to draw on the walls, 'Fresh Air Explorer' adds some fresh air to their creativity by providing the tools which can trigger their imagination.

04 HOW IT WORKS
When kids go to green areas, they can capture forms and patterns of the nature by a small video camera with lights and touch sensors embedded inside the design. Once they come home, real time video projection let them create their own nature on the wall, by using the collected patterns. The negative ions are released once they place the design into the charging station which can be activated manually, as well.

05 MOTIVATION & REFERENCES
Why do kids draw on walls?

According to MIT Media LAB,kids tend to spend more time investigating their projects when the material they work with directly concerns their personal objects and interests, and feel that they have a special sense of ownership.
'Fresh Air Explorer' stimulates kids to spend more time outdoors and to carry fresh air as they personalize their rooms.'Fresh Air Explorer' App motivates them to be more active and social, sharing their special nature collection with friends.
