Monroe
These portraits were inspired by Bert Stern's work of Marilyn Monroe. In Monroe's last shoot before she died she picked up a red marker and destroyed the negatives so they couldn't be printed. She did this so she was in complete charge of her public image and the public only saw her as she wanted. The pictures she 'destroyed' were then published after her death and show her at her most vulnerable.

I thought it would be interesting to ask all my subjects which images they wouldn't want anyone to see and what part of themselves they did not like. Then with these images I placed a red cross on them, covering the part they didn't like. My project was concentrating on insecurity and self image and I wanted to prove that we all have insecurities but you are beautiful even if you don't think so.
