Through the Bicycle Wheel
This graphite drawing is an example of observational sketching created for an Advanced Art class. It uses chiaroscuro lighting effects to create stark contrasts emphasizing the form of a bicycle wheel leaning against a fence. I chose to focus on utilizing negative space to imply the details of the chain link fence, the rubber tire, and the sheen of light on the bike itself. The drawing was done in pencil and graphite and completed in about four weeks.
