New England Revolution - Rebrand

New England Revolution Badge and Identity Redesign
This is a personal project to redesign the badge for the New England Revolution soccer team. The idea behind the crest is taken from a historical standpoint, using some key points in American History to define elements of the badge. I decided to take the project past the crest itself and represented it in a series of applications to show how it would work applied throughout the brand.

I'm not someone who lives in New England nor even the United States so capturing something that feels personal and true to an already well established team was going to be difficult. However, by using the opinions of the fans I feel I have created something that represents the brand well.

The reason I decided to redesign the Revolutions badge in the first place was after a discussion I had with a friend about the current badge. Although I like the idea behind it, it seems to me that with the revamp of the MLS and introduction of clean and modern looking badges such as NYCFC, LAFC and the Columbus Crew redesign, the New England badge has quickly become outdated.

I had seen a lot of efforts to redesign the badge online from various designers and I had mix opinions on them. They all seem to have went for the same direction in terms of using history as an influence, however the execution in general seemed to be lacking in being consistent with the direction the MLS is heading in. Most used obvious 'college sports team' block typefaces and vectors of rifles and revolutionary war men. None to me seemed classy enough to represent a team in this new era of Major League Soccer so I decided to give it a go myself.
