Concept Light - warmth/cold

Concept LIGHT:

This building used to be a factory. For this project I examined the light angles and light incidence in the building. I used this research optimally in designing the interior.

On the ground floor:

Co-working and retail

On the ground floor interior of the space, where most light falls, I wanted to play with this light by using organically shaped furniture inspired by the Antelope Canyon light effect using natural warm bamboo material. In the interior I wanted to create two ambiences: warmth/organic/natural and cold/clean. This means the space in the interior where most sunlight enters that space radiates a natural and warm atmosphere. And the space where not enough natural light comes in this space is clean and cold. So people experience two ambiences in one interior.

In the interior of the building people experience how the concept transforms the interior. Looking into the building from outside people are tempted to walk into the shop because of the organically shaped furniture and the light effect. It works invitingly. The concept has been literally translated in the design.

Floor 1:
Co-working

On one side this interior is transparent with glass windows. Only the construction is still there, so that on this side of the interior the sunlight comes in unobstructed. The space feels open and is light. This gives a pleasant feeling while working here. Also, you will see that by looking out towards on to the roof people can look down through the roof windows into the 'light space' of the ground floor.

Because of the different furniture design there are several possibilities of how a person prefers to work in that space. The different working spaces are partly separated by leaving an opening between furniture and ceiling or between furniture and floor. Because of this there is no complete shielding and this makes the interior spatial.  In this interior there is also a lunch space with a bar, where co-workers can have lunch.

Floors 1 & 2
Living Space: Parents with one child

This interior is completely separated from the rest of the interior of the building.  On the first floor are the kitchen, living room, wash/storage space and study. On the second floor there are two bedrooms connected by the bathroom.

How does the building work?

Three Subjects:
- co-working
- retail
- living

For Whom?

Designers with different backgrounds. For instance: product designers, architects, fashion designers etc. focused on sustainability in combination with organic design (e.g. Bio-mimicry).

First floor:

Co-working: this interior is designed for brainstorming or creating designs or concepts.

Ground floor:

In this interior the designs and concepts will be produced or realized by using 3D printers and sustainable materials.  The room offers furniture designed in such a way that workers can work standing or sitting. After production the organically designed products are put up for sale in the shop on the street side of the building.

(Living is completely separated from the rest of the interior of the building on the first and second floors)
