A Level Art ESA - Pebbles

This is my Externally Set Assignment for my AS art project focussing around the two elements of earth and water. I focussed on studying two artists; Russian-born Elena Kolotusha whose work is primarily organised into themed collections (such as Still Life and Animals), and Ester Roi who produces gorgeous pieces of work representing pebbles and water.

My initial studies of balancing stones, taking inspiration from Elena Kolotusha.
Pencil studies of the balancing stones.
Watercolours on watercolour paper with watercolour pencil work on top for shading.

My Photoshop work before constructing a tile to produce a pattern piece.
My research on Rachel Richardson-Jones, a digital surface design artist whose work inspired many of my final pieces for the project.
My Photoshopped tile ready to be repeated into a pattern.
The half-set tile for the repeated Photoshop pattern.
The repeated patterns produced on Photoshop.
"In-Between" by Ester Roi
"Four Pebbles" by Ester Roi
My research and work using Ester Roi's "Four Pebbles".
Left: a primary photo similar to Ester Roi's piece. Right: my watercolour crayon version of the photograph.
My Photoshop work on the "Four Pebbles".
All the other pieces using different media based on Roi's work.
Other pieces done in various media.
The planning for my final piece, looking at where to position the pebbles on the board.
Where I began to work with Brusho, small coloured crystals that create droplets of colour using water to spread out.
Further exploration using Brusho.
More experiments with Brusho using different surfaces to see what effects were created.
I also explored the idea of using melted wax with watercolours to recreate patterns for the final pebbles.
A sample of my final piece to test the type of glue I would need to use, to test the coloured paint for the shadows, and to finalise the method for cutting out the pebbles.
All the patterned pages for the pebbles to be cut out of.
The final piece in progress.
My final piece.
My final AS display for the ESA.
