Mahalaxmi dhobi ghat, the world's largest washerman colony is at Saat Rasta near Mahalaxmi Station where almost 731 dhobis and their families work together in what has always been a hereditary occupation. Mahalaxmi dhobi ghat was made in the year 1890 and since then it has been here to stay. Mahalaxmi dhobi ghat is one of the biggest dhobi ghat in Mumbai and one of the favorite tourist spots in Mumbai.

who stays in Tardeo,Mumbai comes to dhobi ghat everyday to do his daily routine . He has seen many photojournalist around dhobi ghat shooting everyday and making it a tourist attraction .He says “ Dhobi ghat was different few years ago,since then the land encroachment has take away their livelihood and the place has lost its traditional name: DHOBI GHAT."

Its seen that nowadays the dhobi’s in the ghat don’t wash clothes anymore by their hands rather use washing machines which makes their work faster .

Kids of dhobi ghat got excited when they saw the camera and the bag of my fellow photographer and tried sneaking into the bag for some chocolates.

Owns two three houses at the ghat and has given people over there places to stay . The person inset was relaxing in the morning and having his smoke .

A labrador named “Rocky” was bought by his owner 3 months ago,and is being treated well inspite of the conditions around at dhobi ghat.Owner and the kids give him a wash on a good sunny morning .
