NO LA left behind

New Orleans means a lot of things to a lot of people.

It triggers trauma, sparks uncontainable outburts of joy to those who've experienced the liveliness of a city risen from the ashes. Suggestion of a visit in February will be met with accounts of times spent unconsciously drifting from bar to Bourbon St. bar -hands gripping the grenades so aptly named after them; each story ending only with a sigh of relief that we, the few, the proud, the smart enough to not fall asleep with our shoes on, survived.

New Orleans means resilience and represents the beauty of a life lived without attachment to material possessions. What if all that you cherished, all of the items you're unwilling to toss with each spring cleaning's passing, what if the lump some of material possessions you so wrongly believed represented the fullness of your life, were taken from you? Would you be able to be New Orleans?

It's unlikely any city will ever embody the unrealistic world view many of us believe to be wishful thinking -- a large family, welcoming of all, rejecting only of those with negative intent, and embracing of diversity... while still maintaining, celebrating, and creating tradition.

I've been spending a lot of time here, and I know nowhere else in the world like it.

NO LA left behind

I've been spending a lot of time in New Orleans. I think I like it here.
