The Customer-Led Network Revolution project is assessing the potential of novel smart grid network technologies, new commercial arrangements and customer flexibility solutions to find cost-effective ways to prepare UK electricity networks for the future.
-
Northern Powergrid wanted a succinct explanation and visualisation of their new generation smart-grid, keeping key technical details intact. We show this with just enough detail to appeal to an audience within the industry, as well those who might not have technical knowledge.
-
The resulting film brings together all aspects of the smart-grid network to life, showing a mixture of real-world physical connections, and abstract concepts and relationships. As a bonus we also give Gus a personality, showing him to be at the heart of the smart-grid.

My role in this was to direct the project from initial client brief stage, working with the Steve Lalley to turn the mass of text documents into something digestible, and watchable. Alongside this process I art directed and mood boarded the visual style, created the storyboards and briefed the wonderful daniel Duke to make nice iconic designs. Once Dan and I had built the style frames, it was just a case of working through all the animation.

Sections of the storyboard are included below (with dodgy brainstorm drawings in all their glory!)
