Boathouse / Flood-Disaster Refuge | spring_16

THESIS | As we are surely aware, climate change is pushing chances of natural distate to new extremes ____
Green house gas effects from carbon emmisions,
Rising sea levels, and with it flood danger | Our site is situated in a flood zone as most of the perimeter of Manhattan + BK will be in the near future. Not surprisingly new infrastructural typologies are emerging that combine water adjacency with public spaces while producing a constructed barrier. We have seen projects like BIG as well as many peir projects conceptualized to mitigate or reduce future disasters.

We took it upon ourselves to investigate this flooding and conceptualize a Boathouse that not only serves the present program of srvicing Columia Rowers with a space to congregate and train but in the case of disaster may be reprogrammed to serve as a community disaster relief peir.
