Sing to me Billy by Sherwin Long
acrylic painting on watercolor paper
I made this as an experiment on fusing my graffiti style and fine art portraiture expertise. It is very expressive by the way i splatter paint in a controlled chaos. I flipped the painting sideways and upside down and dripped paint and used many layers of subtle washes of color here and there to enrich the textures throughout the piece. I chose her as the subject because she inspires me as a pioneer and innovator in the way she transformed her pain into her talent in a time period where the odds were stacked against her. She reshaped the jazz singing genre and used her platform to express her feelings and send a message. She was a beacon for many and just like her we all have the ability to unlock our latent potential.
