This assignment was an exploration of surface interactions, in which a 1" x 1" object of a given material impacts a 5" x 5" x 2" space of a different material. I imagined the effect that a dense metal ball would have if it was shot through a mixture of cornstarch and water, also known as "Oobleck". This substance is a Non-Newtonian fluid, which has fascinating properties. At high speed impacts a ripple was created. However, if you slowly put your hand into the mixture, it sinks in. I modeled a channel that the ball would have left in the mixture. The initial impact point is at the bottom right of the piece, and the top left was where the ball had been most recently. I added an element of time, suggesting that this channel closed up after the ball exited the mixture. The ridge of the channel is a ripple that occurs when the mixture is impacted at a high speed.
