Cartoons for "The Daily Reveille" - Spring 2011

Cartoons, Spring 2012
After presenting my campus newspaper with samples of my drawings, I was given the task and privilege of creating political cartoons semi-weekly for Opinion-section writers.  This combines spot-illustration layout techniques with a constant awareness of the changing world.  I always had wanted to find an application to store my knowledge and appreciation for snide, one-paneled cartoons, and this gig provided the perfect labor of love.  Included with each image is a blurb about the context and a link to the newspaper's website providing the article for which it was drawn.  Enjoy!
 Study Habits
Studies and texts were revealing a link in lower IQ's with group-study approaches.

Me n' Jesus
The research of film experts apparently showed that movies with religious or conservative undertones were commercially successful.  The result: me jabbing Mel.

Handling the Vasectomy
First strictly political cartoon of the semester; this one dealt with congressional Democrats pushing back pro-life Republicans' bills with an insidious bill outlawing vasectomies.  What a sense of humor.

Kony 2012
With all of the social-networking hype that Invisible Children's video sparked, it soon became clear that people on Facebook were pretty lazy when it came to actually doing something.  The article focuses on what it takes to actually be a social activist.

 Baby Snooki
Reality TV's favorite muppet is pregnant! Even better, the expected due date is December 21...2012.

Mandatory Attendence
Louisiana State University (my home base) is undergoing a legislative decision that would make attendance absolutely necessary to pass a course.

LA Primary
As the Republicans sweep the country to determine who will face Obama, Louisiana is up next.

 Facebook Narcissist
My color debut, this one deals with a personality type of our generation - the ever-posting Facebook narcissist.

 Standardized Testing
This article discusses NYC public schools omission of "offensive subject matter" in their standardized tests, meaning anything that could isolate a certain demographic or belief group.  Vague and dodgy questions are the replacement.

Son of a Beatle
The offspring of each member of The Beatles have decided to form a band.

 Welfare Drug Testing
One of the newest legislative considerations involves the random drug testing of citizens for simply being on welfare.
