Flood! What is a flood?
A flood is a general and temporary condition where two or more acres of normally dry land are inundated by water or mudflow. Floods are the most common natural disaster and the leading cause of natural disaster fatalities worldwide.
There are several ways flooding happens.
Heavy Rains
River overflow
Dam breaking
Ice and snow melt
Strong winds

Generally speaking, floods can have devastating consequences and can have effects on the economy, environment and people.
According to the National Weather Service, flooding kills more than 140 people per year in the US. You may know the Hurricane Katrina Flood of 2005, but you may not know that it killed more than 1,800 people and impacted 15 million.
