Brazilian Folklore Cards

This was my final project during my studies in Illustration at Middlesex University. It was absolutely free: you were free to choose the theme, the format, the number of pieces, the media, all of it.

So my project, after a month of developing and talking, turned out to be a series of cards depicting animals and mythical creatures from the Brazilian Folklore.
In total I created 10 cards. The format and size was inspired by old cigarette cards.

The method used to produce the pieces was silkscreen.
Mula-sem-Cabeça
Cuca
Saci-Pererê
Iara
Boitatá
Boto-Cor-de-Rosa
Capelobo
Curupira
Corpo-Seco
Neguinho-do-Pastoreio
Those are the simulation cards that I printed in a printer to have an idea of how it would come out in silkscreen:
Some sketches and studies in colour:
Some of the first pieces I've made, before deciding to use silkscreen:
The original idea, before going with cigarette cards, was to have a profile of each creature in each graphic piece:
And some really early sketches of the project:
Hope you guys like it! :)
